Start with Jacqueline, Ana, or another local guide at Mercado dos Lavradores. Taste fruits and learn about Madeira’s produce before walking to a rooftop hotel kitchen for a chef-led cooking show, lunch, wine, and city views. The class is demonstration-based, not hands-on.

“The guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and flexible to adjust to the interests of us. The food was great too! However I missed a bit of interaction on hoe the food was prepared (they only told us but did not really show). Also we had to pay extra money because they were below an minimum amount, however there was no minimum amount of people mentioned in de advertisements or in the details only a maximum of 6, this additional suprise cost did sour the experience a little.”

Meet Ana or another local guide at Funchal’s Farmers’ Market for fruit tasting and a close look at Madeira’s fish, flowers, and produce. Then walk to a rooftop hotel kitchen for Mauricio Fario’s relaxed cooking show, featuring espada, banana guacamole, espetada, lunch, and Portuguese wine.

“Our guide was excellent-knowledgeable, professional, and easily enjoyable. The fruits from the marketplace were delicious and it was fun tasting fruits we had not even heard of in some cases. Lunch was also great from watching the chefs prepare and cook the meal, learning about all the foods of Madeira to tasting their phenomenal creations. Money well spent!”
